About the position

Veterinary Associates Equine – Karaka is seeking applicants for a full-time Vet Nurse position. This is an opportunity to work with our dedicated team of sixteen veterinarians, seven nurses, and four vet assistants in South Auckland.

A veterinary nurse qualification is not required, though preferred. To be successful in this role you will need great communication skills, a ‘can do’ attitude, and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must be reliable and self-motivated with excellent horse handling skills (preferably experienced with racehorses and young stock).

Our nurses rotate through different departments weekly, and responsibilities vary accordingly. In general, duties include, but are not limited to, nursing care of hospital patients, administering medications, surgical nursing, IV catheter placement, and assisting with procedures (lameness, bandaging, radiographs, endoscopy, breeding work) both at the hospital and in the field. In addition, nurses participate in both mucking out and feeding.

This role includes both ambulatory and hospital work. Excellent communication with staff and clients is essential as well as a passion to provide the best possible care for our patients. Hours can vary but are generally 8am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Participation in a weekend on-call/emergency nurse roster which includes rostered Saturday morning duties is also required. The candidate would need to live within 30 minutes of the hospital.
