Veterinary Associates Equine – Karaka is seeking applicants for a full-time permanent Vet Nurse position. This is an opportunity to work with a dedicated team of fifteen veterinarians including boarded specialists, three interns, four nurses, and administration staff. We offer a full-service equine ambulatory and referral practice.
A veterinary nurse qualification is not required, though preferred. To be successful in this role you will need great communication skills, a ‘can do’ attitude, and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must be reliable and self motivated with excellent horse handling skills (preferably experienced with racehorses and young stock).
Duties include but not limited to: mucking out, feeding, nursing care of hospital patients, administering medications, surgical nursing, and assisting with procedures (lameness, radiographs, endoscopy, breeding work).
This role includes both ambulatory and hospital work. Excellent communication with staff and clients is essential as well as a passion to provide the best possible care for our patients. Hours can vary but are generally 8am-5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Participation in a weekend on-call/emergency nurse roster which includes rostered Saturday morning duties is also required. The candidate would need to live within 30 minutes of the hospital.
Veterinary Associates Equine is an equine general and referral practice located in Karaka, New Zealand with a satellite practice in Kumeu, West Auckland. The practice is heavily involved in all types of equine pursuits and has a large surgical, medical, and reproductive caseload, providing a tremendous variety of work. The work environment is attractive; our custom-built hospital is well equipped with the latest equine medical technology. This includes a surgical suite, dynamic endoscopy, digital radiography, ultrasonography, dentistry gear, regenerative therapies including an in-house stem cell culture laboratory, and an in-house diagnostic laboratory. Karaka is a lovely rural community located just thirty minutes from Auckland’s central business district.
