Colic in Horses
Colic itself is not a disease; rather, it is a group of clinical signs which indicate that your horse is uncomfortable.
Our in house IDDEX laboratory is fully automated allowing us to process blood samples immediately if necessary. Scheduled testing 3 times daily for routine samples enables prompt same day service for assessment of specimens to assist diagnosis and treatment of our patients. This service is supported by our specialists in equine veterinary medicine who interpret laboratory results when necessary. Occasionally local commercial laboratories are utilised for some tests that we are unable to provide.
We are able to process other fluid samples through out IDDEX machine including abdominal fluid samples, joint fluid samples and urine samples.
Our laboratory facility also allows us to run regular fecal egg counts for our clients. This service allows clients to only drench their horses when needed and therefore helps to reduce drench resistance in the equine population. Fecal egg counts can be completed daily to ensure a prompt return of results.

It is important to recognise that poor parasite control in one horse will have an effect on the other horses in the paddock, as worm eggs are shed in faeces on to the pasture.
